Rebuild or walk away?

The older you get the harder it is to maintain friendships. Life ebbs and flows, friends move away, and people move on to other circles. Moving this last year and additional health issues caused me to be in a funk. I wondered if this was my new reality or something else was happening. Part of my issue was thyroid cancer and thank goodness it’s gone! The cancer was causing exhaustion and a low-level depression while wreaking emotional havoc on my body. During this time a good friend of mine stopped being friendly. As we met to talk through our issues, it became clear this person had chosen to...

Living abundantly

Living abundantly is a hope for people who have gone through hard times or suffering. Living abundantly is defined as life abounding in fullness of joy and strength of mind, body and soul. It can also motivate a person to seek a change in their life. How does one go about creating an abundant life? This is something I’ve worked to incorporate in my life since my divorce in 2003. I longed to know what the abundant life meant and how it could be lived out on a daily basis. Along the way, I learned lessons on living abundantly through hard times. I don’t always do it well, but know the basics...

Chasing Failure

Today at Red Rocks Church, Ryan Leak, the author and producer of Chasing Failure, came to speak. He’s a gifted speaker with the ability to draw you into his amazing story. His question to the audience was ‘What would you do if you knew you could not fail?’ Become today who you are tomorrow. What I loved about his message was the positive spin on trying even if it doesn’t result in the outcome you desire. Several people have said to me, ‘You wrote a book. You’re an author.’ I personally don’t consider myself an author. I like the term writer better because it delivers a different...

Abuse and boundary setting

My previous relationship started out as innocent as the next. Our first date was over seven hours long. Seth was easy to talk to, pleasant to be around and charming. We started with dinner at an Italian place, then we went hiking at one of his favorite places, took in a movie and, finally, we rented a movie. I wouldn’t let him kiss me because I didn’t kiss on the first date. So, he asked if he could kiss me on the cheek and I said yes. I sent him an email he next day, thanking him for the date. He later told me that he wasn’t going to ask me out again because I didn’t kiss him. The only...
